I hope you do further research on your own about the Native American culture and their perceptions of the mother concept. These are only two symbols from two tribes…there are far more Native American symbols for mother than just these.
I have enjoyed your site; thank you. My name is Sandy and I was adopted at the age of 6 weeks. Lost my mother very young (I was 8). I was always told I was adopted, however it was through Catholic Charities in Odgensburgh, New York. I have tried several times to get ANY information and come up with nothing. I know my (or I was told) my dad was Mohawk and my mom was french Canadian and that is all I have except a name and I am not sure if I have it correct; Mary Jean Saber (Sabier, Sabar??? I lost both parents so I know nothing. I have always been drawn to Native American beliefs, traditions and animals; wildlife especially. I have been a volunteer for the state and federal governments for over 30 years. I currently am very infolved in saving and replacing wolf and wolf/dogs that people tried to turn into dogs. There is a group of us that work together up and down the east coast. I have no fear of a wolf at all; they come to me; they do not shy from me. I have had as many as 6 at one time. I currently have 2. I do not put them on show; they are not caged; they have run of 2 acres that is private and electrified; they were rescues; had I not gone to get them they would of been killed. They come in the house and they are both trained to a kennel; they sit down and come (most of the time). I also am a canine trainer; over 35 years experience. Well that is a quick background on me. I am and have been trying to find the symbols for MOTHER AND SON in Mohawk or Iroquois. Can you help me? Point me in the right direction; maybe there are none??? Any assistance would be wonderful and highly appreciated. My son wants to get it tatooed and I can not find it; or maybe it does not exists; at this point, if it is not available in Mohawk, Iroquois; another tribe would do.
