Light Junkies

No squinting.
No pinching back the light.

Only compulsion and
slack-bodied surrender.

Flame-singed wingtips
Corpuscles popping at hints of heat.

I know why.

Gossamer gold glimmers in luminous Light
We grope for it too with dumb fingertips.

Light sought by Moth methods,
pitching forward into the bones of Bridgette’s flames.

Propelled, following the language of fire tongues
and swallowed whole by Beltane’s bright folly.

Symbolic Meaning of Moths

Prose for Jimi

God bless you Hendrix.
Are you live, or are you Memorex?

Your oozing twang-jive that you bled back then
is a whole-blood transfusion for my head.

Electric riffs rip my seams.
My skull peels apart, banana splits for the brain.

I’m stripped by your soul.
I listen naked to your howling legend.

I howl too.
You get me Jimi.

From jagged fang to soft underbelly,
My parts are just as feral as yours.

Skinning Life

Had she known from
the Beginning that
Life is like a

Turning and twisting
through the years of

Shedding its skin,
just as we all shed
extraneous layers….eventually.

Had she known
both Life and Serpent are
synonymously elusive,
equally cryptic.

Had she known all this,
she would not have been consumed
or constricted by the coils of Life.

But rather,
she would have
snatched the serpent firmly,

by the jaw –

twisted hard –

commenced skinning it with infinite care,

crafted a fine pair of
snakeskin boots…

And then gone square-dancing in them.

In memoriam for Miranda 11/11/72 – 5/03/10.
May your next life find you unconstricted and kicking up your heels.  ;)

Swallowing the Sun

Swallowing The Sun
Swallowing the Sun

She swallowed the sun whole
On a Wednesday afternoon.

Just crammed it right into her mouth,
Like a fiery jelly doughnut.

Sticky sunny ooze
Dribbling out the end,
as she shoved the last sunbeam in.

Aftertaste pungent and puckery
Like sweet gherkin pickles
Tartness lingering on the tongue.

And now she levitates like the sun
Made full and whole by its consumption.

Finally illuminated.
Finally enlightened.

Or possibly indigestion.
