Exploring Flying in Dream Meanings

Have you ever had a dream in which you are flying? If you have, I’m willing to bet you remember it vividly.  These dreams are so exhilarating! There is a sense of ultimate freedom that is hair-raising. Upon waking we almost weep at having to set our feet back on the ground.

That’s a key point, because flying dream meanings deals with freedom.  Specifically, freedom to be creative and self-expressive.

I was talking to a friend of mine last night who told me she’s had flying dreams since her youth. However, recently instead of flying solo, she finds herself in an airplane or helicopter.  I was inspired by her curiosity about these flying dream meanings. I figured if she was interested in these dreams, then many of you might be too. So, I thought I’d share some thoughts about these phenomenal dreams.

Symbolic Suggestions about Flying Dream Meanings

Bring on the Birdseye View:
When we dream of flying, it is often our subconscious desire to get above and beyond our circumstances. Moreover, many people who have a lot of flying dreams have a need to see the bigger, broader view of situations. Whether you have a knack for seeing the big picture, or have a need to get more objectivity – a flying dream is your cue to expand your view of your surroundings.

Elton John Nailed It:
You know that song “Rocket Man”? It describes a guy talking about launching off into space. For him, it’s just a job 5 days a week. He misses his home, he misses his wife. He feels burned out and all alone. I think this is why many of us conjure up flying dreams. Very often we get hung up in our jobs, or we feel stuck in our situations. Flying dream meanings indicate our deep desire to launch out of these ruts in life.  Sometimes these dreams indicate a need to take flight and rocket into a different way of living our lives.

Are You Mental?!:
No, of course you’re not mental if you have a flying dream! But it’s important to note the realm of air is a mental element. Air is symbolic of the mind. Air deals with thoughts, intellect and dreams.  That’s noteworthy because a flying dream might be a prompt to pay attention to our thoughts. Are we avoiding certain thoughts? If so, our flying dream might mean we are trying to escape stressful/negative thinking. The realm of air is also about communicating thoughts. So, a flying dream might ask us to investigate how we are expressing ourselves, our thoughts and our ideas to others.

Tools Rule!:
This pointer deals with our dreams when we are flying in vessels like planes or helicopters, etc.  My friend recently started having flying dreams exclusively in some kind of flying device. I suspect this is happening because she’s got a lot of regulations she’s dealing with in real-life. Flying in vessels in dreams indicates a need for safety, protection or rules.  It may also imply a loss of self-confidence, or being timid when it comes to feeling big freedom.  It may also indicate a need for extra navigation in life situations. I’m not suggesting we pull the parachute cord in these dreams. No, I think these vessel-controlled flying dreams are important to interpret. They represent a level of control required in our lives. That’s great, however, great freedom often means taking great risk.

In closing, I hope you enjoyed this post on flying dream meanings.  And many thanks to my friend for inspiring me to write it for you!

As always, I’ve got to give you kudos for interpreting your own dreams according to your own life situations. I’m glad you know these are just my observations after interpreting dreams for many years – but that doesn’t mean these pointers are the end-all-be all.  You be you!

Akashic Record Meaning Simplified

akashic record meaning

 Akashic Record Meaning

Wish me luck on simplifying the concept of Akashic record meaning.  This concept is not the easiest nut to crack. Let’s start with the meaning of the word.   The term Akashic is Sanskrit for aether (aka: ether).  Ether, in the spiritual sense, is the essence that dwells beyond our physical reality.  Some schools of thought believe ether (Akasha) is a place located in the higher-most regions above the clouds in the sky.  Interestingly, the term Akash is the Hindi word for ‘sky’.

Akashic record meaning is an obscure thing. It is submerged in a sea of opinions from religious scholars, renowned psychics, theosophists and a few crack-pots who have no idea what they’re talking about.

According to The Dictionary of the Esoteric by Nevill Drury, the definition of the Akashic Records is:

“Theosophical concept for an astral memory of all events, thoughts, and emotions that have arisen since the world began.”

That is a swanky way of saying the records are a celestial storage facility for all memory, experiences and potential of every living being for all time.

Will you allow me to go on a tangent here?

Once upon a time I used to manage a storage facility.  300+ units holding people’s stuff.  That storage facility was kinda like the Akashic records.  How so?

Each unit held people’s treasures, their memories, their history.  Some units held people’s future too. For example, a friend of mine kept a unit to protect a classic car he was working on; he planned on burning the road with it one day when he completed repairing it.

So imagine an infinite number of storage units holding all memories, all experiences and all futures for all living beings.  That’s Akashic record meaning in a nutshell.

Regrettably, it’s not that simple when it comes to these weighty concepts…it never is.

Rather than storage units, most scholars agree the Akashic records are tomes…big books, if you will.  They are stored in a library that is incomprehensibly massive.  This library puts the Library of Congress to shame – it is endless, immeasurable.

Each book within this limitless library is a historical document of every being.  Each edition is a detailed account of every human’s past, present and future.  Each volume documents memory, emotion and experience.

Moreover, these books also contain pure potentials…actions not yet taken, experiences not yet felt.  These potentials shimmer in expectation, because the only thing that sets a potential in indelible writing in your Akashic record is choice.  Once you make a choice, the potential then becomes a permanent entry in your record.

So where is the library of Akashic records located?  In another dimension of course (I told you this stuff is never simple).

This is Madame Blavatsky’s take on Akashic record meaning and its location:

“…Located at the next level called the Fifth Round that is the fifth Element, Ether, which is the gross body of Akasha. As air is familiar to us now [Akasha] is the agent of all things. It is only in this Fifth Round detected with those of higher sense that growth and development of Akasha serves complete expansion.”

That’s pretty heavy.  Let me lighten the load.  Akashic record meaning in Blavatsky’s terms implies Akasha is synonymous with Ether. As such, Akasha is everywhere, pervasive, omnipresent…’like air.’

The  Akashic record meaning gets a little more muddled when we consult Edgar Cayce’s opinion on their location.  According to  Awakening Your Psychic Powers: Open Your Inner Mind And Control Your Psychic Intuition Today (Edgar Cayce Guides), the location of Akasha is in within the human soul.  To quote the book:

“He [Cayce] referred to the…Akashic Records as that domain where all memories are stored. He indicated that the soul contains a record of all its experiences, that the soul is built from those experiences. And yet, at the same time, all memories are ‘as One.’  The universal awareness is the consciousness of all those soul memories.”

This implies that the soul and spirit are connected to the animating force of life. Call it God, call it the Universe, call it Divine Spirit…it is the unifying power that is both the glue and lubricant for all existence.

akashic record meaning

Are the records real?  That’s conjecture.  Meaning, there is tons of information on the existence of Akasha, but there is no hard evidence it exists for real.  Many theosophists and psychics are absolutely convinced of its existence.  Furthermore, experts claim the Akasha can be accessed.  Yep, like checking out a book from the library – but on a grandly divine, universal scale.

Is there a way to access Akashic records?  Yes and no.  If you doubt the existence of the records, then there’s no point trying to check out your book from the Akashic library.  If, however, you believe in such a phenomenal data-bank of all human existence, then you can absolutely obtain your library card and enter the grand halls of Akasha.

Can we view other people’s records?  Some scholars believe so.  Edgar Cayce healed hundreds of people by accessing their records in the Akasha.  Some psychics claim to do the same.  In truth, I’d rather not elucidate on this question.  Each record is extremely private, and to access someone else’s Akashic record without express permission, is a spiritual abomination….one that is unforgivable both in the physical and the non-physical realms.

Avia’s Experience with Akashic Record Meaning

In my experience, I gained access after six months of research into the Akasha record meaning combined with an equal amount of intense meditation.  Yep. Daily, for six months I endeavored to reach the ‘Hall of Remembrances’ (as Cayce puts it).

Did I make it?  Yes.  Conclusion?  Magnificent insight.  Did this experience change my life?  No.  The knowledge guided me – but I’m still human.  I’m still going to make crappy choices, no matter how illuminating my Akashic experiences were.

Did I learn my future from tapping into my Akashic records?  Yeah, sort of.  As mentioned, the book resonates with pure potential.  There are some future possibilities written in my book. But it seemed to me, my future is written in pencil….the writing was faint…whereas my past was in permanent ink.  This tells me my future is not set in stone.  It tells me that my choices are key to erasing the future written in pencil, and creating a better future written in pen.

Your experience with the Akasha may be completely different than mine.  As with all things spiritual and ethereal…this stuff is linked to the soul.  Every soul is unique, so therefore you’re spiritual journey will offer you different insights than mine.

In the end, the choice to believe is yours.  Don’t take my views as the ultimate answer. I strongly encourage you to do your own research, and make your own decisions.

Poof! You’re a Toad (the dangers of totem-assignment)

Personal Investment is Key to Totem Identification

Don’t let the title of this blog post fool you.  I’m not waving my rowan-wood wand, turning folks into toads (yet, lol).

Rather, this post is about the tricky business of assigning animal totems to folks wanting to know.

Not a day passes when someone doesn’t send in an email with a question like: “Avia, can you tell me what my animal totem is?”

On the one hand, I’m thrilled with these inquiries.  It suggests a desire to re-connect to animal kin.  It’s a sign that folks are becoming more attuned to the wild and wonderful realms of the Mother [Nature] – and that is uber-awesome.

On the other hand, I’m often distressed by the lack of personal investment in re-connecting with our animal brothers and sisters.  Connections to our animal kin is a deeply personal act.

What’s even more irking is the idea that a virtual stranger can arbitrarily assign a totem to another person.  To explain, I’ve been known to listen in on certain radio show discussions about totems and neo-shamanism.  I’m not naming names, but I’m suspect when these totem-experts get callers on their show with the inevitable question: “Can you tell me my animal totem?” and I’m floored when the totem-practitioner pops off a critter to the caller – essentially assigning a totem to him or her in the span of two seconds.

How can that cosmic connection be gleaned from a distant second party?  It feels like “slot-machine logic” – an answer spit out at random.  I could be wrong. These totem experts could be mightily connected to their spiritual council, and so they are fed this totem information to present to the caller.  Still, I have doubts.

On my most connected days, in which unification with my own Spirit Council is super-tight, I am fed information in terms of “seeing” woodland creatures or other critters scampering around my client’s energy.  These visions give me a good idea about the inquirer’s totem affiliations.  Nevertheless, in the midst of these visions come strong admonishments from the Council.  Admonishments like: “These are the animal energies communing with the human – but he/she must establish the connection.”

Historically, shamans could succinctly identify totems to the members of their tribe/village.  There’s a reason for that.  Shamans, elders, seers, and wise-women of a tribe typically hold their positions in the group over long spans of time. They live, learn, love together in a tight-knit community, intrinsically linked to the clan members. They often oversee the birthing of new members, and are participants of that member’s life from day one.  This gives them special knowing, they see the patterns between a tribal-member’s aura, energy, personality that link to the like-energy of their totem.  Simply put, tribal shamans have had a long-standing connection with their people, and are therefore in a better position to identify the individual totems of their tribesmen and women.

So what if we don’t live in a native setting in which an Elder knows us and can help us retrieve our animal totem identities?

The onus is on us.  We must be the ones to invest the time to re-connect with our animal guides and guardians.

Asking others to identify our totems isn’t a bad thing, but I’d be leery of pat answers from virtual strangers.  Those who ask me what their totems are often get frustrated with my round-about answers.  I offer information that my Council feeds me, but not without belting out a few paragraphs about the importance of personal meditation, research and investigation into the matter.

Let’s face it.  Most of us wouldn’t ask a stranger “Who is my life-partner?” and then marry the first person named Joe or Suzie just because we’ve been given a pat answer to this question.

In my opinion, re-partnering with our animal totems is no less serious.  Our animal totems are profound partnerships – indeed, a marriage.  They deserve our time and attention to get to know them.  We deserve the investment to familiarize ourselves with our connection to them.  So, be wary of the “poof! you’re a toad” syndrome.  Pat answers to complex questions like these are to be approached with caution.

Animal Messages: The Good News

Animal Messages - It's All Good

In one capacity or another, I’ve been dipping into animal consciousness and interpreting symbolic messages they contribute to the greater/global consciousness.

An email I got from a reader of my main website (whats-your-sign), asked a great question:

Hi Avia, I love your work and reading your animal insights have really helped me on my life’s journey.  A few years ago I was having a terrible spell of bad circumstances.  The Owl kept visiting me, and I was convinced it was a bad omen.  Do you remember me emailing you about this several years back?  You responded with a link to an article you wrote about symbolic Owl meanings, and it helped.  It also made me explore more of your animal interpretations, and I noticed something.  All your interpretations are positive.  It seems there is nothing but good news coming from our birds, fish and mammals from your perspective.  Don’t get me wrong, this isn’t a criticism, but even your ideals about Snakes and Spiders (critters who aren’t my favorites, lol) are positive and uplifting.  Can you tell me why is it all good news?  Don’t animal messages sometimes include negativity, or at least a warning of bad things to come?  Thanks for your work.
Love,
Beth

Beth makes a good point.

I look at animal consciousness as an extension of the Unified consciousness (call it the God, the Goddess, Christ consciousness – by any name,  it’s that omnipresent, pervasive, supportive intelligence unifying all energy).  I mention on many occasions that the creatures of our planet are (mostly) clarified energy – they don’t have the weirdies of mentality like humans often exhibit.  Because our creatures are clarified, they’re a pure channel for Unified consciousness.

So, when I dive in for data about animal messages, animal meanings, etc., it just makes sense the information retrieved will be a bright reflection of the Unified field – supportive, buoying, brilliant.  In short, the Natural Realm lives closer to, and indeed, is one with God.  Naturally, their communications will reflect that relationship.

Introducing Deep-Heart Healing

Through my work, I come in contact with special souls, whose intent is true and virtuous.  One such soul is Steven Distefano, co-founder of Deep-Heart Healing.  Over time, Steven has remained consistent in his devotion to spiritual growth for himself and his community (both local and long-distance).  This post serves as an introduction to the ministry of his heart, Deep-Heart Healing.  Here are a few excerpts from his work, and the work of co-founder, Ulrike Basile.  Enjoy!

Deep-Heart Healing
Introducing Deep-Heart Healing

The focus for Deep-Heart Healing is the overcoming of fear-based energies in our life by love.

The great human problem of evil and fear lies in believing the illusion that we are separate from one another, separate from nature and Spirit.  This is ignorance of what truly is: Our Oneness. When this is overcome, we behave lovingly towards one another. What is most needed today therefore is healing the effects of believing the illusion of separateness and the fear it generates in our lives.

In the way of Deep-Heart Healing, – Spirit discerns all things. We are all an interdependent web of relationships mutually influencing each other in every moment. As we become aware of Spirit as Loving Ground we can discern how all things work towards the realization of our unique call to love from The Spirit for the good of all.

Deep-Heart Healing also stresses that we can develop intuitive guidance as we commit our whole life for the good of all. Intuitive guidance has but one aim — that we may discern what is in harmony in our life, in all our thoughts, words and actions with Spirit and what is not.

Deep-Heart Healing assists the direction of the heart towards the commitment for Universal Good which discerns all energies at work in our life.

  • What spiritual practice will best serve my awakening to Spirit?
  • What are the unresolved fears and limiting beliefs from my earliest years and throughout my life that are now calling to be released?
  • Where in my bodily systems is there imbalance and what supplements, healing modalities will best restore my natural balance?
  • What relationships and/or choices in my life, best serve my realizing the greater joy and freedom to respond to The Call of Spirit given me?

It is in listening to such questions as these in the presence of Spirit that what we truly need is discovered.

Seeds as a Symbol of Consciousness

Seeds - A Symbol of Consciousness?
Seeds – A Symbol of Consciousness?

Last night, in the dreamtime, symbolic seeds were sown into the meaty furrows of my brain.  Their manifested identities known only to my deeper consciousness.  It was a fabulous sensation.  The grey matter of my mind seemed willing, pliable and moistly awaiting the first touch of root to mental-membrane.

A good dream. An oracle of potential growth.  A sign of depositing new ideas into old rows with the hope and promise of a bumper crop of…of what?  Creativity?  Productivity? New kinds of nourishment?  Food for a hungry mind?  New neuro-network patterns?

Who knows.  Dream-walking advances at a far different pace than common ambulation.  That means, I’ll have to walk calmly between multiple time-lines to see the cycles of growth these dream seeds represent.

But in the meantime, while I’m weeding, feeding and cerebrating over these dream seeds, I thought I’d sow a few symbolic thoughts on seeds as a symbol of consciousness.

Traditional symbolic meaning of seeds include:

  • Potential
  • Trust
  • Hope
  • Nourishment
  • Sacred
  • Earthiness
  • Initiation
  • Reproduction
  • Cycles
  • Time
  • Provision

Several years ago, while dining with a colleague, he asked: “What’s the symbol for consciousness?”

In response, I pulled out a pen and drew a single dot on a paper cocktail napkin.

“That’s it?” He asked.

“Yep, that’s it.” I said, “The dot represents a single point of awareness.  It is, essentially, a seed.  It is the point of pure potential.  This present moment of focused consciousness gives no clue as to which side of the polarity it leans.  There is no gender, no higher or lower, no light or dark.  It simply is.”

My colleague protested: “But isn’t consciousness expansive?  Pervasive?  Everywhere at all times?  This dot, or seed suggests limitation, and that’s not how I see consciousness.”

I loved this observation, and after pausing a moment to let his implications sink in, I responded:

“Yes, I agree with your model of consciousness.  However, I chose this dot to represent a seed as a symbol of consciousness because it is the point of initiationAwareness must be initiated.  And the concept of initiation is inherent to the ancient symbolism of seeds.  So, it’s the idea of initiation…specifically, initiating the potential that is powerfully packed in a small unit (a dot, a seed) that I’m emphasizing here.”

I was reminded of this conversation when I woke from my seed dream.

Those crazy brain seeds!  That tiny dot drawn on a cocktail napkin.  A single unit of initial potential!

These images made me want to become that dot…to become a seed and

  • Auger a sense of stillness in the midst of daily bustling.
  • Be as a seed is: Patient, Potent, Packed with potential.
  • Be silent, rest in a damp darkness, suspended.
  • To “just know,” and own remarkable wisdom without the necessity to prove it.
  • Submerge in resolute assurance that transition, growth and ascension is inevitable.

Just thoughts.  Thanks for growing along with me..
