Holy Super, Blue, Bloody Moon Batman! Meaning of the Moon Tonight

Super Moon Meaning

Hold onto your hats folks, we’re in for a wild ride. This full moon (January 30-31, 2018) is gonna be a humdinger!

I’m not here to talk about the astronomical techy details about this super, blood, blue, eclipsing moon.  I’m more interested in the symbolic implications of tonight’s moon.

The moon is a symbol of subtle power. It represents mystery, magic and extraordinary potential.  Compare the moon to a special secret. I mean, a BIG special secret.  The information is there, but it’s hidden.

When we have a full moon that secret is like letting the cat out of the bag.  The power of the moon is exposed, and BAM! The truth is exposed, and the magic of the full-moon moment is revealed.

A blue moon signifies a double-whammy of mystery. It’s symbolic of information that is super rare to come by. So, a super full blue moon will reveal big wisdom rolling towards us like a cannon ball of insight.

Blood Moon Meaning
Blood Moon Meaning

A blood moon holds a unique symbolic spin. The blood moon typically shows up around harvest time (autumn).  This is a time of committing to hard work in order to reap big rewards. Yet this crimson moon is bloodletting in the dead of winter. What’s up with that? It means we need to do some sacrificing in order to get what we want. This means that it’s time to reap the harvest,  even if the timing doesn’t seem logically correct at this time.

Eclipse? It means that everything I just said about the super moon, blue moon, blood moon is all up for grabs. It means the meaning of this moon is teasing us. It means this whole lunar event is a transforming, unpredictable cliffhanger in terms of symbolic meaning.

All this sounds so eerie and bizarre.  But don’t freak out! I’ve got a few suggestions on how to handle this wild lunar trip.

♦  Forget the Peach Schnapps:  If you ever watched Seinfield, you’ll know about Elaine and her ‘vault.’  Sure, she could keep a secret in her solid fortress, but all those secrets are unlocked once you get a little peach schnapps in her. Same with this full moon.  With this lunar moon, expect secrets to be revealed. Anticipate hidden stuff to magically appear. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Not all secrets are nefarious. Sometimes hidden things come to us as lovely epiphanies that help us grow and move forward.

♦  You Better Believe it Baby:  You can do magic, you can have anything that you desire. If that sounds familiar, then you know I’m quoting the pop song by the band America. This blue moon is all about dreams and wishes coming true.  This is the time to claim what you want. Set your intentions for your most intense dreams. A blue moon has a powerful magical force backing it, and it’s the perfect type of moon to make some major movements in changing your luck according to your intentions.

♦  Skin in the Game:  If you’ve got investments, be prepared to experience some shifts.  A blood moon is about sacrifice and harvest. If you’ve got skin in the game, be prepared to win the game, or lose your shirt. This moon and all its wonky weirdness means the coin can either be heads or tails when it comes to reaping what you’ve sown.

♦  Beware the Way of Henny Penny!:  You know the story. Henny Penny claimed the sky was falling and got everybody to believe her. Spoiler alert: Henny and all her followers get eaten alive by a sly fox.  What’s my point?  This eclipsing moon is going to present some funky feelings that might make you think the sky is falling. Don’t panic. The combination of the blood, blue, super and eclipse is all about fluctuation and shifting.  Stuff is going to feel topsy turvy. That’s okay. Stay the course. Hang onto your bearings and beliefs. Hold true to that which anchors you.

Yes, this moon is rare and rocking on the lunatic fringe.  Bottom line is this: Change is going to happen.

These changes are going to be potentially odd and unexpected. But the thing to remember is whatever the changes, there will be other transitions to follow that lock the puzzle pieces together. Just hang in there, you’ll be surprised at how much positive can come from this unique lunar phenomenon.

In a nutshell, there’s nothing to panic over. No need to activate the bat signal.

This is a time to embrace your power, set your intentions, expect the unexpected and appreciate this very special moment.

Mabon Meanings – Autumn Equinox Insights

MabonMeaningAutumnEquinox

Morphing Into Mabon Meaning and  Autumn Equinox Illumination

This time of year, around September 21-22 offers an incredible opportunity for insight, transformation and personal development. Why? Because this time marks the ignition of the autumn equinox.

In my education of Nature, my mentor taught me about Mabon meaning. Mabon, or the fall – autumn equinox are one in the same. Mabon is just a different term for this seasonal transition.  Mabon is just an old European term for this equinox. But this point in time is known by many names in many cultures. Whether you call it the start of Fall, or Mabon, or Havest time, Fogamur, or that switched-on time of year when the leaves change…by any name…it’s a glorious time to celebrate a unique transition.

So what are some take-away points to Mabon meaning and this autumn equinox? Plenty! This is a great time to focus on big transitions in our lives.  Now is also the perfect time to fixate upon harvesting that which we have planted in the past.

Grab onto this present moment and consider what you have accomplished over the summer. What kinds of seeds have you planted in your life or the lives of others?  What have you contributed to your world? What you have sewn will be reaped during this time of year. The autumn equinox has a boomerang energy. Now is the time when karma kicks booty.  What has been done will come back to us this time of year.

This is true on an agricultural level, of course. It’s harvest time. We start to pull goodies from our gardens and relish the bounty we’ve received. The ancients had a special connection with this equinox because it is a time of extraordinary celebration for what the earth provides.

Okay, so maybe you don’t have a garden. Maybe your idea of harvest is opening up your freezer and shoving a Lean Cuisine in your microwave. That’s okay. You don’t have to be a tree-hugger to be in love with Mabon meaning and the profound impact of this autumn equinox.

Essentially, this is a time to embrace the challenges and changes life presents to you right now. This equinox marks the essential balance between light and dark. The sun begins to withdraw, and we perceive the light of the day becoming shorter. The earth and her relationship with the sun is shifting.  With our planet’s shift, we should be aware of ourselves shifting too.

Make a point of shifting into a place of celebrating the light available to you right now. Maybe that sounds contradictory. It’s not. This is a time of fading light, and increasing darkness. Relish the light you have now, but also contemplate the effect of shadows in life.  That may sound a little scary, but it’s really not when we approach the concept head-on.

Life on all levels is about balance.  This is a prime time to perch yourself on the precipice of light and dark and party hearty for the diverse opportunities nestled in this moment.

So how do we take full advantage of this special time of year?  Here are some tips…

How to Embrace Mabon Meaning and Autumn Equinox Essence

1). Get Your Shine On:
This is the a prime time to give yourself a high-five for all your accomplishments. Take inventory of your achievements and successes. Imagine the energy of Nature applauding you for how much you have grown, and the bounty you have received. But what if you’ve had a hard time? What if you’re struggling to jump and jive to the tune of your accomplished glory? That’s okay. I’m not suggesting you need an Emmy or a Pulitzer prize in your pocket. Sometimes we must reflect upon the simplest challenges we have faced. Maybe you potty trained your kid over the summer. Or perhaps you perfected a poached egg.  Your achievements don’t have to be legendary, they just have to be acknowledged.  By doing this, you set a tone of confidence as you move through the darker months of the year. And by doing this, you give yourself reassurance that you have the light to progress, advance, move forward and evolve no matter what.

2). Clean Your Clock and Take Stock:
You’ve heard of spring cleaning, but who says spring has to corner the market on clearing out the cobwebs? The autumn equinox is perfect when it comes to clearing out unwanted crud in our lives. Whether it’s getting rid of that pasta that expired two years ago, or getting rid of old emotional grudges…take stock of what you’ve been holding onto, and give it a big heave-ho!  The Universe has a funny way of rewarding us when we cleanse our lives – especially during special times of the year like now.  Clean out your house. Clean your heart. Clear your mind. This is the time to do it, and the results will be extremely rewarding.

3).  Stop, Drop and Roll:
You know that term when you’re on fire? Stop, drop and roll.  That’s kinda what the autumn equinox asks of us. Mabon meaning is all about being present in this revolutionary moment and giving ourselves the freedom to roll with whatever comes in our future. Maybe that means a time of withdrawal. This time might ask you to be a little selfish and indulge in your own personal space. That’s okay, because every self-investment you make moves into a beautiful momentum for your future. It may seem paradoxical to say be present while rolling with an unknown future. The point here is to don’t sweat tomorrow. Simply know tomorrow will take care of itself as long as you take care of this present moment. Sometimes you’ve got to experience the fire, sit on it, roll with it and extinguish it. By doing so, you come out renewed and rebirth. Kinda like a phoenix! Autumn is a time of light burning out, only to be reborn again.

Symbols of Autumn Equinox

There are essential symbols associated with Mabon meaning and the autumn equinox.  In an effort to round out our understanding of this time of year, here are a few for contemplation…

♥   Ivy:  Consider this emerald gem. As trees begin to fade in the fall, the ivy clings tightly and remains evergreen. Autumn is a time of death and rebirth. Seeing the ivy thriving as an oak tree kisses summertime goodbye is a symbol of endurance and strength. Same holds true for you right now. Cling to whatever keeps you fresh and evergreen. Hold onto that which supports you and keeps you thriving.

♥   Scales: Or, more precisely, the sign of Libra.  This sign governs this time of year. Why? Because this is a phase of time that is all about transition – but superior balance. In life and in Nature, we are all walking a tight-rope. It is key we keep our balance in order to utilize this moment to our maximum potential.

♥   Swan: What? Yeah. The swan is a symbol of the autumn equinox (so is the goose) because it is an icon for ultimate transformation. From Celtic to Native American, the legend of the swan evokes lessons of growth, evolution and self-love. You know the story of the ugly duckling. If you can relate to that story, then let this time be a reminder you are not ugly…you are simply in transition. This time can shine a special light upon you that accentuates the beauty that resides within you. Spread your wings and relish the lovely being you are.

♥   Sun: Another irony, because the sun is fading this time of year. But it’s important to keep the home-fires burning within our heart. In fact, when light  fades, that’s the time we’ve got to turn up the voltage within us and crank up our internal amperage. No matter what you are faced with – you must remember you are made from light.  Therefore, if you invoke the light, you will be guided in life. Simple as that. You are a star – in fact, you are made from stars. You cannot deny your own light.  The only thing that thwarts your stellar presence is falling into the darkness. Do not go gently into the good night. Demand and command the light within and around you. You have infinite potential. Keep your light burning upon that potential within you!

Symbolic Meanings of Seasons

Friends, Foes, Family, Toads

I’ve got a friend. I call her ‘Mayura’.  It is the Sanskrit name for peacock.  If she reads this post, she’ll know exactly what I mean.

Anyway, I’ve known Mayura for a long time…over twenty years.  I’ve had the honor of seeing her grow up.  She grew up in a thoroughly challenging environment.

Mayura reminds me of a lotus flower.  Did you know that for all its loveliness, the lotus flower is born in some pretty stinky conditions?  Yep. In fact, the more putrid its environment, often the lotus blossom becomes ever more pure, powerful and gorgeous.  It is a supreme, symbolic example of beauty finding a place in the midst of pretty crappy places.  This also, makes the lotus a sacred flower in ancient Asian cultures.  There is a remarkable quality to anything that can flourish and offer elegance in a chaotic, sometimes icky world.

At any rate…Mayura and I have somehow kept in touch over time.  We’ve been ‘radio silent’ for years, only to pick right back up as if time has never passed.  This, my friends, is a luxury I hope you all can experience at least once in your lives.

Mayura and I have been talking about human relationships lately.  I adore how she views things.  She has an expanded, helicopter view of interpersonal dynamics.  I dunno how she does it.  Maybe she was born with this laser-like view into the human soul.  She knows herself and she knows others…it is almost as if she holds people up into the light and she can see through them…like she is seeing through the transparency of a person…like she can see the other page behind the cover of the book that is the human.

I wish I had been (and could be presently) as savvy as Mayura.  She is 20 some-odd years my junior, but this woman has insight and wisdom coming out her ears, and beyond her years.

So what’s my point to all this?  You know I always want to give you something…some kind of take-away point.

Well, as I said…Mayura and I have been talking about the ups and downs of dealing with people.  Doesn’t matter if friend, foe or family…dealing with people can be a dicey prospect.  Actually, dealing with those closest to us can be more challenging than dealing with strangers off the street.

We shared a little about our experiences with feelings of guilt, betrayal, love, loyalty…you know…all that stuff all people should coffee-klatch about sometime in our lives.  One of the things I love about Mayura is she makes me think.  She makes me go deep and internalize some really heavy stuff that sometimes I’d rather not visit.

Nevertheless…while discussing a particular touching moment in our lives, I shared an infinitesimal bit of fluff with her.  It wasn’t my most shining moment of advice-giving.  It was not a wise, sage-filled statement I made.  In fact, I’m pretty sure my words to her were, in some ways, hauntingly hopeless.

But were they?

Somehow, we got to talking about the idea of people changing.  We all want to give people the benefit of the doubt.  We especially always want to keep loving and believing in our friends and family.  Even our foes…our ‘frienemies’ – at some point we had a connection with these people…they didn’t become our enemies for no reason.  Nope.  Often, an enemy was once a friend.

So what do we do with the people in our lives who we so desperately want to love, to trust, to believe in….yet they somehow always seem to disappoint us?

This is what I said to Mayura  in response:

“I think people can modify.  We can rise above, improve,  adjust….but at our core…I think that nugget of true ‘self’ is nestled within us like a little toad.

The only true hope we have of true transformation is if we love our inner toadie, and let it snuggle in tight within us, and love it warts and all. Contrarily, there are those of us who ignore the roosting toad….which causes that soggy thing to rot and become poisonous.

We are who we are.  Our only chance is to embrace or reject it.  And….I hope you understand what I’m saying…because if I have nothing in this life to give…my little observation about inner toadies is about all the wisdom I have.”

Lame?  Yeah, maybe.  But relevant?  Yeah, I think so.

What is your inner toad doing within you?  What is the inner toad doing within your friends, family or foes?  Is it twitching, torturing? Chilling out?  Consider it.  -Makes a big difference within ourselves and with those whom we interact.

Just thinking.

May all your interactions be filled with revelation.

Brightest,

Avia
