The Pinecone, The Pineal Gland and An Illuminating Meditation

The Pinecone: A Symbol Of Illumination

The Pinecone: A Symbol Of Illumination

I love how the most unassuming bits from Nature represent very big meanings when we take the time to dig into their symbolic potential.

What’s so special about the pinecone that it could possibly be a sign of illumination?

…Ever heard of the pineal gland?  It gets its name because it looks very much like the pinecone.   But their visual likenesses aren’t what intrigue me.

The pineal gland is a remarkable feature of the human experience.  Nestled in the brain between the two hemispheres, it is a source of endless intrigue in the realm of mysticism.  Indeed, it’s known by pseudonyms such as the “third eye” the “dream center” and the “mystic seed.”

From a purely biological perspective, the pineal gland is integral to the production of melatonin, which is a hormone that facilitates homeostasis of wake-sleep patterns.  In short, it regulates the natural rhythms of sleep according to our environment.

The pineal gland registers our exposure to daylight, and, regulates production of its sleep inducing elixirs according to its findings.  Less light means more melatonin.  More light means less melatonin.  It’s an ancient human thing – less light meant winter was encroaching and although humans didn’t hibernate – more sleep was an ideal way of conserving energy during lean winter months.

Mystics have also suspected the pineal gland is a receptor of Spiritual Light too – with the ability to open up to mystical awareness upon the presence of an ascended master and during periods of enlightened consciousness.

So what’s this got to do with the pinecone?

I find it fascinating that not only do the pinecone and pineal gland share similarities in appearance, but they are also both keenly affected by Light

The pinecone, like the pineal gland, is extremely affected by Light, and takes action according to what it senses.  Cones will open themselves up to the sun’s rays, and close up during cloudy or stormy days.  It has to do with continuation of the seed-line.  Sunny days offer more arid conditions and the tiny seedlings nestled in the scales of the pinecone can become airborne more easily.  Damp or rainy days are crumby conditions for seed spreading, so the pinecone just closes up shop during these weather conditions.

That action is symbolic in itself (like: Opening up spiritual awareness in order to sow seeds of limitless potential and continuation of Soul Growth) …. but to keep with our comparison, we can now draw corollaries between pineal gland and pinecone in terms of gauging Light, seeking Light, and becoming activated in the Light.

We could say, pinecones are the external reflection of the “mystic seed” (the pineal gland).  From this perspective, all these pinecones we see this time of year bring on a whole new meaning.

What if every time we saw a pinecone during this holiday season we

*stop*

*engage our inner domains*

*and purposefully widen  our inner Vision*

That’s what I do when I see pinecones.  I consciously “stop, drop, and roll” into my inner realms with intent to broaden my mystical view.  I tell you, it is revolutionary and worth a try if you’re game for a mind-blowing experience.

You can also try meditating with the pinecone as a more organized approach to stimulating the pineal “dream center.”  Here are some meditative tips:

  • Find a pinecone and place it before you in preparation for your meditation
  • Light a candle while setting your focus upon expanding your consciousness
  • Cast your physical and spiritual eyes upon the pinecone and observe it in the candlelight
  • Envision the pinecone opening itself to the Light and warmth of the candlelight
  • As you continue this solemn, calm perception, begin to see that pinecone within your mind
  • Nestled warmly, snuggly between the two halves of your brain, get a clear visual of that pinecone within your mind’s eye
  • Now visualize your inner pinecone opening gently to take in nourishment from Divine light
  • See your pineal gland (pinecone) radiating and stimulated from the calming light of the cosmos
  • Continue to enhance this meditative experience according to your own impulses and requirements.
  • When you’re ready, conclude your meditation by centering yourself back into  your common reality – resurface & reaffirm your bodily presence.

The idea is to tap into the pinecone and transfer its visual/symbolic qualities to the pituitary gland with a goal to expand, illuminate and ascend.

I’ve had phenomenal results with this meditation.  Namely, this exercise has catapulted me to insanely blissful and utterly unreal realms where I was transformed in truly ballistic ways.

Just work with the pinecone as an extension of your pineal “third eye” and see what happens.  Let me know what kind of experiences you have!

Grasslands of Dreams: Meanings Behind Dreaming of Grass

Dreaming of Grass

Dreaming of Grass

Tags: Nature | EcoIntuition | Dream Meanings

Dreams pave the way to our most profound knowing.  Lately, I’ve been dreaming of grass.  My meditations have been of a grassy nature too.  I thought it would be nice to share a few thoughts on the symbolic meaning of dreaming of grass.

Some observations:

Green Green Grass of Home:
Grass is green (at least, most of it is).  This puts my dreaming mind in the Anahata chakra - the heart chakra, as this energy center swims in veridian waves.  The heart chakra governs health, healing and high-hearted aspects like inclusion, connection, empathy and love.  The heart is the engine of the body, and the Greeks felt the heart fueled our spirits with emotional power and inspiration.  So, dreaming of grass can suggest our attention be directed to the function of the heart – emotionally and physically.  Innumerable cultures believe the heart is the home of the soul too.  So dreaming of grass can be a call to return to our homes – a call to return our attention to our soul-center.

Get a Grip:
Grass is symbolic of a vast system of inter-connectivity.  If you’ve ever observed the root system of a patch of grass, you have the perfect illustration of connection.  There is no separation.  Dreaming of grass is a message of connection with community or even re-connecting with our personal roots (history, emotional centered-ness).  Furthermore, grass has been utilized by savvy agriculturalists as a means to prevent soil erosion.  The grass serves as a matrix that grips the soil and keeps it in place during times of flooding.   There is symbolism in this.  Dreaming of grass could be a message for us to get a grip on our foundational beliefs – don’t get washed away in the floods of life.

Grass Roots:
This brings me to my final symbolic observation about dreaming of grass – grass roots.  Grassy dreams are often a message for us to get to the root of issues that are in our fore-thoughts.  If something is causing us stress, it’s time to get to the root of it.  However, in dreamy grasslands, we see the roots are all interconnected – so we may have to do some digging.  In other worlds finding one root of a problem may lead us to several other issues.  In this case, it’s important to honor the process of working through our perspectives and beliefs about troubling matters.  Be patient, and nourish yourself as you get to the root-heart of various matters of conflict.

Grass is a vast ecosystem in itself, and as such, it is symbolic of nourishment.  When analyzing your own dreams, be mindful to feed yourself compassionately – it’s the only way to insure a properly rooted foundation in your interpretations.

I hope you have enjoyed these thoughts on potential meaning of dreaming of grass.  Here are a few other links that may hold interest:

Dreaming of Tattoos

Dreaming of Tattoos

My friend Sue Samuels called this morning and asked about the symbolic meaning of dreaming of tattoos.  I found this synchronistic as I’ve been feverishly working on  my new tattoo site, so I was completely engaged in her question.

Although unsure about what everybody else says, I’m certainly clear on my brand of understanding about dreaming of tattoos.  Here is a quick list of concepts conveyed in dream tattoos with an explanation of my conclusions to follow:

  • Ritual
  • Devotion
  • Lineage
  • Initiation
  • Permanence
  • Heritage
  • Ancient connection
  • Historical reference
  • Drawing attention
  • Creative expression
  • Commitment
  • Alteration
  • Metamorphosis

How am I coming up with all these symbolic meanings for dreaming of tattoos?

Some are self-explanatory.  Tattoos are permanent, and so when we’re dreaming of them it conveys a sense of unaltered choice.  To use the adage “the dye is cast” is appropriate.  Dream tattoos speak about irreversible choices we make in our lives that affect us on deeply personal levels for the rest of our days.

Concepts like “drawing attention” and “creative expression” are pretty obvious too.  When we dream of tattoos, our inner voice is telling us to express ourselves more outwardly – share our gifts and talents with the world.

Symbolic meanings of “alteration” and “metamorphosis” connect with tattoos being a form of changing our appearance.  Body  modification is personal transformation taken to the extreme(with internal/spiritual consequences too), and so when we dream of tattoos it’s a reference to major changes.

Now to my favorite parts of this topic.  Dream tattoos can pertain to heritage, lineage and archetypal identity because our collective consciousness is fully aware of the historical human practice and purpose of tattooing.  As humans we all share ancient memories and common lineage (there is only one ethnicity: “Human”).

Our subconscious has access to all this hereditary memory.  Ergo, when we dream of tattoos (specifically dreaming of tattooing in progress), we are experiencing a sacred process our ancestors practiced for eons.

From an ancient perspective, tattoos are ritual.  They galvanize the human saga.  They mark initiation.  They concretize identity.  More specifically, our ancestors used tattoos to commemorate rites of passage (coming of age, marriage, battle victories, etc).  They also used tattoos to document historical importance’s within the tribe.  In this instance, the skin is a scroll upon which the history of the family clan is recorded.

So, dreaming of tattoos in this sense is a message that we are infinitely connected with our ancient heritage.  It holds meaning of tribal awareness, and our infinite link with the sacred nature of the human saga.

Dreams An Illustrated Guide by Adam Fronteras (book review)

Dreams: An Illustrated Guide by Adam Fronters

Dreams: An Illustrated Guide by Adam Fronteras

I’ve had the utter pleasure of owning and reviewing a book on dream interpretation entitled: Dreams – An Illustrated Guide by Adam Fronteras, edited by Rashid Ahmad.

From the outset, this book is wholly enchanting because of its presentation.  Bound in a lovely cover with a page-placement jacket design – you can mark your place easily as you journey through your dreams.

Dreams – An Illustrated Guide is indeed every bit a guide.  I highly recommend taking this book with you on all your dreamy transits.  Reading the book from front-to-back as a novel will prove to be engaging as well as enlightening.

Alternatively, if straight-though isn’t your style, Dreams is a perfect reference guide to assist with dream interpretation.  Keep this book by your bed stand and refer to it upon waking.  Look up specific symbols in your dreams in the book and you will receive outstanding insight.

It’s clear Mr. Fronteras has done his research in compiling this vast array of dream symbolic meanings.  All the common dream symbols are covered in the book, and the explanations are clear, accurate and germane to the deeper psyche.

I’ve used this guide on many occasions of the last few weeks.  I kept it by my bedside and consulted the dream interpretations offered in the book after each dream sequence.  Each time I was pleased with the interpretations offered by Mr. Fronteras.

As a matter of fact, the dream interpretations in the book spoke to me on an archetypal level.  I felt connections being made between my ancient perspectives and my psyche.  This kind of connection is a gift that few people are able to give.  That gift is extended graciously in Dreams – An Illustrated Guide.

Part of the books power comes from the selection of images chosen.  You can tell a great deal of thought has been invested in the imagery used in this book.  I loved the vibrancy of the pictures, and these special images enhanced my interpretations too.

The book is extremely organized.  This isn’t a banal dictionary of dream meanings spewed in alphabetical order.  Rather, this is a thorough guide ordered in essential sections.  Each section offers a host of dream meanings.  Here are a few of the many areas of dream interpretations offered in the Guide:  Animals,  Environment, Relationships, House & Home, Cycles of life, Space and more.

The Guide also offers case studies and real examples of dream interpretations.  The introduction of the book is equally enlightening as it explains the purpose of our dreams and how to harness dream power for personal development.

It should be clear I highly recommend Dreams – An Illustrated Guide for both experienced and novice dream weaver.  If you are looking for dream meanings book that has depth, substance and profound power in tapping into the dreaming realms – this book is for you.

Symbolic Angel Meanings

Symbolic Angel Meanings

Symbolic angel meanings deal with:

  • Messages
  • Divine awareness
  • Purity
  • Love
  • Faith
  • Courage
  • Compassion
  • Perseverance
  • Interrelating
  • Renewal
  • Protection
  • Illumination

At their most basic, angels are symbolic of communication between higher energies and lower energies.  Or, communication between “god” and “man” if you like.

Of course, our current energetic environment is shifting so rapidly these days, you can just about insert any term where I’ve referenced quotes.  Angels can be an energetic channel facilitating communication between you and your  own idea of the divine.  Angels can be the laison between heaven and earth too.  In this light, angels are like a super highway connecting information from higher realms and lower realms – they carry concepts, thoughts and ideas to be dispersed throughout countless dimensions of experience.

The Angiris in Hinduism are considered in this fashion – as messengers between man and the holy-divine energies.  This is because, it was thought (Hindu and otherwise) most men could not purify themselves to the extent required to converse with gods.  Although this is a valid point, and I’m not one to argue with ancient wisdom – I don’t tend to believe we need intermediaries to commune with the divine.

But, I do think humans need to undergo energetic metamorphosis in order to effectively communicate with the divine.  And, I think angels can offer us assistance in that metamorphosis.  Angels resonate at mind-blowingly high frequencies.  By touching in with angels, we can get a piggy back on their unique brand of high, fine energy.  In this respect, yes, angels can certainly facilitate conversations with “god.”

There are various kinds of angels, and symbolic angel meanings will vary according to kind:

  • Cherubim:
These are throne-bearers for the faithful.  Cherubim are also deemed “the ones who pray.”  They keep constant vigil upon souls in need of strength, faith and renewal.  These types of angels represent purity of heart and innocence.  They invoke a simple, childlike faith and will remind us of the beauty in the small and tender.
  • Seraphim:
These angels are considered to be the light-burners, and will be watchful over the true of heart.  These angels are the watchtowers of faith.  They keep their focus attuned to the faithful, vigilant and determined souls who hunger for the truth of enlightenment.  These angels will also stir the pools of energetic faith within the soul.  They are like kindling for the fires of faith.  They provide fuel on our spiritual path.
  • Archangels:
Among the highest ranking angels, these are the most commonly known angels.  Symbolic angel meanings for this angelic clan deal with strength, protection, guardianship.  These angels will represent themselves as indomitable, warrior spirits.  These angels are also the best known oracles.  Archangels will be very persistent and loquacious in communicating their thoughts to humankind, as typically their messages are incredibly profound.

Symbols associated with various angels include:

  • Swords : Conveying protection, leadership, unified focus, purity in thought, valor
  • Scrolls : Symbolic of messages, oracles, divine communication, sacred knowledge
  • Flame/Torch : Conveys the inner light of the soul – always lit, always fueled by faith
  • Wings : Symbolic of the higher evolution of the soul, higher realms of existence, ascension, spiritual mobility
  • Hearts : Conveys health, healing, love, devotion and compassion
  • Horns: Announcement of vital news, trumpeting of victory, triumphant declaration

Dreaming of Storms: Symbolic Meaning and Thoughts

Dreaming of Storms: Symbolic Meaning of Stormy Dreams

Dreaming of Storms: Symbolic Meaning of Stormy Dreams

Dreaming of storms can offer a treasure trove of symbolic meaning.

I had torrential downpours in my dreams this week.  And, whilst logging onto Twitter this morning, I saw  @coachoncall ,  Cheryl Richardson (The Coach on Call) had a thunderous dream encounter too.

This synchronicity prompted me to write a few thoughts on symbolic meaning of dream storms.

My symbolic lexicon identifies storms with the elements of air and water.  These elements run a symbolic parallel with thoughts (air) and emotion (water) amidst the cosmic consciousness. Ergo, dreaming of skies, clouds and storms may be akin to “stormy thoughts” or emotionally-centered thinking.

Storms brewing in dreams may indicate challenges in expressing thoughts, mis-communication, misunderstanding, or conflict between heart and mind.  This may include an inability to make a decision or holding grudges (just as clouds accumulate and hold water, so too can thought & emotion).

Rain storms are symbolic of water, and water symbolism deals with cleansing and emotional stirrings.  Stormy dreams may indicate an accumulation of unhealthy or unclear thoughts needing to be washed away from the psyche in order to continue on the Path.

Lightning is symbolic of a stroke of genius, clarity, or epiphany.  It is also symbolic of action, power, and assertion.  Many dream interpreters consider it to be a divine oracle as Native Peoples have established lightning as a “sign from the gods” in cosmic consciousness.

Dreaming of thunder also holds the potential for messages from the divine.  When thunder rumbles through  my dreams, I fancy it’s the Celtic god Taranis hammering at my heart – knocking down the layers I’ve built up around the soul – demanding entry so that my spirit may be emboldened by his presence.

Further, when I dream of rain or any kind of storms I consider the personality of the element.  I propose Undines and Sylphs are not simply mythological creatures, but in fact, they are the personification of water and air (respectively).

When stormy weather visits the dreaming mind – I like to think these elemental spirits are paying me a visit – speaking to me through the language of dreams.

Whether you prescribe to these symbolic meanings of storms in dreams, or have your own symbolic identifications – you owe it to your highest selves to interpret them according to your own personal perspective.

There is infinite gold to be mined from these cavernous oracles.  Start digging!

Dream Meaning and Self-Communicating

Dream Meaning and Self-Communication

Dream Meaning and Self-Communication

I get a lot of requests to interpret dream meaning and symbolism. Of course, I always have impressions to share, but I continue to stand firmly in the knowledge that dreams are personal oracles.

What do I mean by that? I mean your dream is a message for you and only you. Dreams are a form of self-communication. Dreams arise when certain aspects of yourself are reaching out to contact other aspects of yourself.  That sounds redundant, but it’s not, really.

I contend humans are a sum of many, many parts (aspects, personalities, motives, heritages, etc), and dreams are a means of communication amongst these parts.

For example, a deep-rooted aspect of myself that moves from a place of insecurity may send a prophetic dream to a higher, more sure-footed aspect of myself whose job it is to interpret the dream. The dream meaning in this context holds a key to soothing or healing that insecure aspect.

If this sounds confusing, don’t let it.   Here’s an analogy:

We are each an ocean. Our waters rise and fall in cyclical rhythms that are at once natural and mystical. And, within our waters stirs ancient life in infinite varietes.  Some of this life we know intimately.  Others lurk more deeply, and our knowledge of these life forms is slight.

Dreams churn our energetic waters, move the silt, and bring deeper aspects in contact with more familiar waters. This allows us to pick up new treasures and discoveries (in the form of personalities, tendencies and behaviors) that have surfaced in awareness.

Should we fear the unknowns in our watery depths? Not at all.

There is nothing in the grand body that does not know itself. There is nothing within the totality of the ocean that is excluded – all is known – all is accepted.

Making an effort to contemplate various dream meaning is a form of self-acceptance as well as self-communication.

In the end, we must swim in ourselves, and do so playfully – as a child would splash in the waters of the sea, fearless, unabashed and exilerated by the experience.

Better yet, be adventursome in the pursuit of determining your own dream meanings.  There’s something empowering and alluring about self-discovery.

Go exploring.  Approach your energetic waters like a saucy pirate lustily stroking the crest of a wave as if it were a lover by your side.

I digress…

Succinctly put, dreaming meaning and self-communication boils down to the grand tennet:

“Temet Nosce.”  Know Thyself.

Dream Interpretation: Houses, Storms, Lightning in Dreams

Tuesday, May 13th, 2008

Dream symbolism of lightningLast month I was asked for a dream interpretation involving dream symbols of houses, storms and lightening.

The dream is as follows:

“In the dream i am with a lady friend and we are walking down a road near the home where i use to live.  In the distance i see a terrifying storm cloud gather. I grab her hand and run towards to my old house. As I run to the house for protection, my lady friend goes to go in house next door and a lightning bolt just misses her, she is ok,then the storm quickly vanishes.I find this a very deep dream, would you be able to interpretate this for me?”

My response:

I can give you some impressions and thoughts on your dream, but ultimately only you can interpret the dream.

Dreams are messages from our own consciousness, and they dance within the context of our own lives – therefore it’s impossible for anyone but you to be able to glean the full, true meaning of the dream.

I’ll give you some ideas about the symbols in your dreams.  After thinking and meditating upon these symbols, I’m sure you will be able to formulate some answers from you psyche.

Let’s take your dream bit by bit, delving deep into each symbol.

You and your lady are on a a road.  Roads in dreams are symbolic of direction, navigation, purpose, goals, and destinations.

When we are moving in an easterly direction in dreams it is symbolic of communications, new beginnings and matters of the spirit, as we symbolically see the sun rising in the east.

Dreaming of houses deals with the body, as well as a desire for security and safety. The condition of the house in your dream represents how you truly feel about your current situation. If the house is in ill-repair or disarray, you need to take a close look at your health. If you are building a House, you should expect visits from old friends and you’ll make new friends. A picture-perfect house means you are ready to settle down into a more stable situation. In your case, a familiar house indicates a need to get back to your roots, surround yourself with comfort, create an environment of stability, as well as people and situations that make you feel safe/taken care of.

Interpreting storms in dreams gets tricky.  My symbolic lexicon identifies thoughts with sky and clouds as the element of air runs a symbolic parallel with thoughts and the cosmic consciousness.

That a storm is brewing in your dreams may indicate challenges, problems, mis-communication, misunderstanding, or conflict within the mind.  This may include an inability to make a decision or holding grudges (just as clouds accumulate, so too do thoughts).

Rain storms are symbolic of water, and water symbolism deals with cleansing and emotional stirrings.  The dream may indicate an accumulation of unclear thoughts need to be washed away from your psyche in order to continue on your path.

Lightning is symbolic of a stroke of genius, clarity, or ephiphany.  It is also symbolic of action, power, and masculinity.  Many dream interpreters consider it to be a spiritual oracle as native peoples have established lightning as a “sign from the gods” in cosmic consciousness.

I believe if you think about all of these dream symbols, and really invest the time to gather your own personal understanding of them and how they relate to your life experience, I know you will find profound meaning in your dream.

Dreams are windows into another world of knowledge.  When we take the time to meditate upon the meanings of our dreams in relation to our lives, we are looking into a bigger picture that provides us with incredible insight.

Dreaming of the Deceased: A Few Thoughts

Sunday, May 4th, 2008

Dreaming of DeceasedI got an email from a gentlewoman who was dreaming of deceased people, and she requested some clarity on this issue.  I respond thusly,

Dear Dreamer,

You are going to hear a million different reasons and explanations about dreaming of the deceased (or people who have passed from this physical plane, if you prefer).  All of these explanations are slices of the truth, and so you owe it to yourself to find the meaning that sits best with your own spirit.

In my life experience I have come to know the nature of energy (including the life force that is “human”) never dies – it simply passes from one phase to another.  We see it in all of nature.  Energy simply cannot be destroyed – it is universal law.

With that foundation, we can make the next assumption that our connection with other people (connections are a type of energy) will not die either – even if their physical bodies have ceased on this earth.

Are these people that have passed away coming in your dreams to give you a message?  Perhpaps….there are many philosophies out there that will tell you this.

The psyche deals with mortality in interesting ways – this is due to our own deep rooted beliefs as well as the collective conscious’ perception of death.

Perhaps you could also entertain the idea that you are a receiver of energy.  If our energetic connections with people never cease, then it would make sense that there are places within our own psyche that will recall the energy of those who have passed.  In this light, perhaps your own inner self is sending you a message, and using the imagery of those who passed as a message.

Recall the personalities of those people in your dreams.  Is there a predominant theme?  For example, was one person a healer?  Perhaps this is a message for more healing in your life.  Was another person always angry? Perhaps this is a message to point out your own anger, and how you may work to defuse it.

When we dream of those who passed, it may also be our inner selves telling us to die to the things that no longer serve us.  In other words, dreams of people who have passed me be a message for us release grudges or ditch bad habits.

You have brought up an enormous phenomenon – books have been written about this phenomenon, and will continue to be written about it.  What is key, is that you invest the time to determine the meaning to your own personal satisfaction.

I can promise you one thing, however: These dreams would not come to you if you yourself did not have the answers to their meaning.

You know – just give yourself the time, patience, determination, and thirst for knowledge – the answers will come.

Dream Interpretation: Dream Bees, Slippers and Shaman

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

dream bees and slippersI got an intriguing post from a reader who requested a dream interpretation .

Here is a recap of her dream:

“The main parts of the dream were about three buried bumble bees, and one ruby slipper, buried by a shaman, in order to ’summon’ me? I came to him with utter confusion about finding three bees and a ruby slipper.” To which I respond…

Dear Dream Queen:

I’m happy to regurgitate the impressions I am shown about your dream. However, it is always you who is the interpreter – and only you are able to apply the meaning of your dream to your own life situation.

By translating the dream into how it applies to your life you are able to join two worlds – the mundane with the mystical. By joining these two halves to make a whole, you essentially lift yourself into a higher state of consciousness. With that kind of gravity, you can see why you really owe it to yourself to investigate all angles of meaning to your dreams.

That said:

Slippers or shoes are typically dream symbols that indicate our path in life and they ask these questions of us:

  • Is the path I walk congruent with my beliefs?
  • How is my spiritual walk?
  • How do I feel about the direction my life is taking?

I’ve written an interesting post on shoe symbolism and lore here.

That your slipper is buried may indicate there is neglect within an important aspect within your life-walk, or something that you may wish not to reveal to others. Alternatively, buried slippers may hint to a meditative state – a time of resting from action and contemplating the path you’ve strode thus far.

That there is only one slipper may indicate a sense of either incompleteness or a narrow minded approach to your life’s journey (only moving in one direction with resistance to other options).  One slipper may also indicate taking the first step as we see an aspect of number one in numerology deals with new beginnings.

Rubies – (including ruby colored shoes or ruby slippers) are symbolic of the passion that sparkles brightly within our selves. For many of us, the subconscious mind associates the ruby with life, passion, and action as it’s deep, rich color is linked with such primitive forces as blood and fire.

The dreaming mind’s reference to gems speaks of unlimited potential and our inherent ability to create exquisite beauty by working hard towards our heart’s goal. We gather this analogy from the back-breaking work in mining for gems, and then undertaking the arduous task of forming the gem into its finished faceted glory. This is analogous of the chiseling of the soul…chipping away at the superfluous parts of ourselves to retrieve our innate finery.

Offhandedly, does the Wizard of Oz have something to do with the symbolism of your ruby slipper? Is there some kind of symbolic archetype there that your subconscious is tapping into? Are you looking for a way back home (philosophically speaking)?

Bumble bees in dreams speak of:

  • industry,
  • action,
  • communication, and
  • our ability to consciously choose the results we want in our lives

Bees also point to spiritual gifts as we incorporate the treasures of (golden) honey as their industrious byproducts. When we dream of bees it may be an indication that we are ready to communicate our spiritual gifts, or perhaps we should more clearly recognize the treasure the resides within us.

That your bees are buried may indicate you’re holding yourself back, or your voice (communicating your needs) is stifled for whatever reason. Alternatively, buried bees may hint to a hibernation, a time of holding back in self-reflection and I speak more of this later.

Even the number of bees may assist in identifying what kind of concepts the subconscious (dreaming) mind is presenting. Three is symbolic of creativity, and joining together higher aspects to create a unified whole – an end product (whether it be wholeness, art, enlightenment, or accomplishing a goal). I’ve written more on the symbolic meaning of three here. – it might be worth a gander.

Shamans are archetypes of primitive power. These beings can breathe in-time with the pulse of the earth. Likewise they move in-step with the primal rhythm of the Mother (earth, that is). That he is summoning you may indeed be a literal translation – your higher self – or the part of you more in-tune with the Divine may be calling you forth on a new path (harkening back to the symbolic slipper).

This symbolism combined with the earth (in the burying bees & slipper) bring about an intuitive glimmer that speaks of needing to be more rooted in the core of your beliefs. I’m talking about anchoring, rooting, and becoming wholly centered within your own Source of power.

I’m particularly fascinated with the burying aspect of your dream – not only can this be symbolic of holding back, or covering up – it may also indicate a need to ferment, or a time of hopeful germination. Are there aspects of yourself that are still in development (like seeds buried in the ground waiting for the right time to spring forth)? Or, do you have ideas that need to compost a bit before you can develop them?

I hope these ideas give you a bit of a nudge in a direction that might help you apply more personal meanings to your dreams. I know you will be able to read this and weave many tapestries of personal understandings that will weave through your daily life.

I would encourage you to continue to develop your own understanding of the many aspects of your dream life and then lay these meanings on top of your life situation like a template.

By doing this we can see through the transparencies and begin to formulate meaningful insight into the greater context of our lives.

Thanks for posting your dream, and for allowing me to reflect upon it.

Namaste,

A.

Symbolic Meaning of the Moth

Moth Meaning - Moth Symbolism

Moth Meaning - Moth Symbolism

I’ve been asked about the symbolic meaning of the moth.

It took me a few days to really jive with this amazing creature, but once allowed access, I was given some incredible insights.  These (intense) thoughts can be seen here on my symbolic meaning of moth page. Here are some other observations:

Moths are nocturnal, and much of their symbolism deals with:

  • Intuition
  • Psychic perception
  • Heightened awareness

Indeed, many people who are spiritual practitioners (particularly of an esoteric ilk) attract the moth as their animal totems.

As if being a night-dweller weren’t enough, the moths are babes of the moon.  They follow the mother moon as a source of light, and this connects them with some powerful moon associations such as:

  • Knowledge of the Otherworld
  • Second sight
  • Influence
  • Prophesy
  • Clarity

However, as I mentioned in my in-depth page on moth symbolism here, those of us who fly high with the moth must be mindful to not be too carried away by her influence.  Moon creatures such as moths ask us to have a firm foundation before lunar journeying.

The moth expresses some tender vulnerabilities, which I’ve mentioned here. We may take this as a message to be open to our heightened spiritual experiences yet allow for adjustment and protection too.

Indeed, we find this theme of protection in the moth’s chrysalis.  Unlike her cousin, the butterfly (with whom the moth shares many symbolic attributes), the moth’s coccoon is like an internalized womb with a hard casing, allowing more protection against the elements.  (the butterfly has an externalized womb, more exposed and subjective to the environment).

This may be analogous of garnering protection for ourselves in our spiritual practices.  The moth reminds us to have a willing heart in our spiritual growth, but realize the heart is a treasure to be taken care of.  Part of this caretaking involves nurturing and protection during times of development.

I’ve written more about the moth’s message of balance, grounding and protection (particularly in terms of its attraction to light and flames) here.

As a dream symbol, the moth may be interpreted as a message to listen to our inner voice.  Dreaming of the moth may also indicate we are on the path to attracting love into our lives (see more about the moth and love symbolism here).

Another dream animal aspect of the moth deals with influence.  Here, our dreaming mind may ask our waking mind what is it that rules our attention, or what are we allowing to overly influence us in our daily lives?

In superstition: A white moth is said to embody the soul of a loved one.  White being the symbolic color of purity of the soul, and the embodiment comes from an ancient idea that the night (realm of the moth) is a dwelling place for souls (in terms of the Underworld or Otherworld).

Another superstition connected to the moth is that when one is seen, an important letter or message will arrive (I have yet to find an origin for this one – if you know where this folk-myth came from, feel free to comment).

But don’t rely on superstition to receive an important message.  Take some time to connect with the moth…she may be a bit elusive at first, but she’s worth the persistence for the wisdom she imparts.
