Symbolic Angel Meanings

Symbolic Angel Meanings

Symbolic angel meanings deal with:

  • Messages
  • Divine awareness
  • Purity
  • Love
  • Faith
  • Courage
  • Compassion
  • Perseverance
  • Interrelating
  • Renewal
  • Protection
  • Illumination

At their most basic, angels are symbolic of communication between higher energies and lower energies.  Or, communication between “god” and “man” if you like.

Of course, our current energetic environment is shifting so rapidly these days, you can just about insert any term where I’ve referenced quotes.  Angels can be an energetic channel facilitating communication between you and your  own idea of the divine.  Angels can be the laison between heaven and earth too.  In this light, angels are like a super highway connecting information from higher realms and lower realms – they carry concepts, thoughts and ideas to be dispersed throughout countless dimensions of experience.

The Angiris in Hinduism are considered in this fashion – as messengers between man and the holy-divine energies.  This is because, it was thought (Hindu and otherwise) most men could not purify themselves to the extent required to converse with gods.  Although this is a valid point, and I’m not one to argue with ancient wisdom – I don’t tend to believe we need intermediaries to commune with the divine.

But, I do think humans need to undergo energetic metamorphosis in order to effectively communicate with the divine.  And, I think angels can offer us assistance in that metamorphosis.  Angels resonate at mind-blowingly high frequencies.  By touching in with angels, we can get a piggy back on their unique brand of high, fine energy.  In this respect, yes, angels can certainly facilitate conversations with “god.”

There are various kinds of angels, and symbolic angel meanings will vary according to kind:

  • Cherubim:
These are throne-bearers for the faithful.  Cherubim are also deemed “the ones who pray.”  They keep constant vigil upon souls in need of strength, faith and renewal.  These types of angels represent purity of heart and innocence.  They invoke a simple, childlike faith and will remind us of the beauty in the small and tender.
  • Seraphim:
These angels are considered to be the light-burners, and will be watchful over the true of heart.  These angels are the watchtowers of faith.  They keep their focus attuned to the faithful, vigilant and determined souls who hunger for the truth of enlightenment.  These angels will also stir the pools of energetic faith within the soul.  They are like kindling for the fires of faith.  They provide fuel on our spiritual path.
  • Archangels:
Among the highest ranking angels, these are the most commonly known angels.  Symbolic angel meanings for this angelic clan deal with strength, protection, guardianship.  These angels will represent themselves as indomitable, warrior spirits.  These angels are also the best known oracles.  Archangels will be very persistent and loquacious in communicating their thoughts to humankind, as typically their messages are incredibly profound.

Symbols associated with various angels include:

  • Swords : Conveying protection, leadership, unified focus, purity in thought, valor
  • Scrolls : Symbolic of messages, oracles, divine communication, sacred knowledge
  • Flame/Torch : Conveys the inner light of the soul – always lit, always fueled by faith
  • Wings : Symbolic of the higher evolution of the soul, higher realms of existence, ascension, spiritual mobility
  • Hearts : Conveys health, healing, love, devotion and compassion
  • Horns: Announcement of vital news, trumpeting of victory, triumphant declaration

Mockingbird Symbolic Meaning

Mockingbird Symbolic Meaning

This post on the Mockingbird symbolic meaning comes in response to an email requesting more information on the Mockingbird.

They’re called Mockingbirds because rather than having their own unique call, they imitate other birds.  They do this for a number of reasons – to either attract other birds in their area, or repell them (calling away other birds from their territory).

Mockingbirds are extremely bright with intelligence equal to ravens, crows and magpies (who are also very smart & even trainable).

Mockingbirds are also very protective of their families.  Like Blue Jays, they can be vicious – even attacking humans if they feel their brood is threatened.

Mockingbird Symbolic Meaning (at-a-glance)

  • Joyfulness
  • Gratitude
  • Cleverness
  • Intelligence
  • Playfullness
  • Protection
  • Security
  • Communication

When the Mockingbird comes into our lives it can be a message that we need to rethink how we work, interact and communicate with others.  Are we accommodating?  Are we being flexible?  The Mockingbird way is to listen first, then respond.  This is one of its greatest lessons for humans.

As you observed, the Mockingbird is very playful – another profound lesson for us.  Few birds have the kind of bright vitality and obvious revelry.  So when this happy bird flies into our lives it is a cue for us to frolic, and suspend our severity for a time.  Enjoy, relax, and take time to appreciate the pleasureful things in our lives.

I hope these observations on Mockingbird symbolic meaning are helpful.

Life Lessons from Motorcycling

Tuesday, July 14th, 2009

AviaVeneficaMotorcyclingBy my own design (and without much effort) the wisdom of symbolism bleeds into every facet of my life….including motorcycling.

Here are a few symbolic lessons I’ve learned from motorcycling:

1) Know Thyself.  Know Thy Limits.
While motorcycling, I’ve learned the road can be unforgiving if you don’t know your place on it.  “Temet nosce.”  Know thyself.  That means knowing your limits too.  Big lesson.  Not knowing leads to false bravado, or worse, a type of ignorance that leads to fatality.Same holds true in real life.  Not recognizing our various inner natures can lead to falsely motivated actions.  We can avoid accidents and wrong turns by taking candid stock of our many facets.  Facing ourselves (both light and shadow) allows us to take educated action when situations call for it.

2) Some Rules are Absolute. Some Rules, not-so-much.
On the road, there are all kinds of laws.  Traffic laws, sure…but also laws of gravity and aerodynamics.  Some of these are absolute.  For instance, if the road turns one way, and your body turns the opposite – you’ve broken an absolute rule and the consequences will be unpleasant. However, some rules can be bent.  Which ones? As in real life, it’s our responsibility to know which ones.  Motorcycling has prompted me to poke around the “rule book of life” and challenge the establishment.

3) Look Where You Want to Go.
If you’ve never ridden a motorcycle, one of the most important things to know is the bike will go where your eyes go.  When you’re turning, move your entire head and point your eyes into that curve – the bike will always follow (this includes looking down at the pavement which could lead to more unpleasantness). This translates into a profound lesson.  If you have a vision or a dream, look toward it and everything else will have no choice but to comply.  Let your vision be your lead.

4) Be Courteous, Not a Pushover.
Motorcycling can be very social, and a lot of cyclists are extremely warm-hearted and friendly.  In fact, motorcyclists almost always hail each other with a hand-wave when passing each other on the open road.  This, I’ve got to say, is uber-cool.  Mostly, common courtesy is easily maintained amongst riders, and there is a sense of camaraderie. There are circumstances, however that are not so nice.  Other cyclists who have something (heaven knows what) to prove can be bit nasty.  Other drivers in cars (called “cagers” in cycle-speak) can be a source of nastiness too or worse, he/she is oblivious to your presence (it’s never good to have a brain-dead two-ton trucker cut into your lane whilst on a motorcycle). What to do? Motorcycling has taught me to maintain a consistent level of courtesy and respect for others while at the same time be willing to assert myself when my inner gut inclines me to do so.  Learning self-assertion is a life lesson worth its weight in gold.  It’s a fine art.  There are ways to convey your power without being a bitch.  Likewise, there are ways to extend graciousness and courtesy without sacrifcing.  Mastery of this balance is tantamount to practical enlightenment.

5) Go for Comfort, not Cool.
To many people (including me), motorcycling is sooooo cooool.  But just like in real life, aiming for “cool” on a motorcycle can lead down a dead end road.  For example, cool motorcyling gear is not always the right gear.  I learned early in the game I’d rather look like a complete idiot and be warm, protected and comfortable than look cool.  There are things I incorporate into my ride that are probably pretty dorky looking – but they make the ride more enjoyable. Furthermore, I rode my first scoot in high school where I was deeply competitive with the French horn in symphony.   I had to strap my very awkward 3 foot wide horn case on the back of the bike to commute.  This does not look cool….no matter how you slice it (I know because my peers were quick to point this out).  Oh well.

Herein lies the life lesson:
Forget what everybody else is doing (or what they’re looking at), and enjoy the journey in your own way.
